As your baby's birth approaches feelings of excitement can be mixed with fear and anxiety, especially if you go over your 'due date'. There can be pressure to have labour induced artificially and this causes immense stress to women who would otherwise allow Nature to take its course.
It's a fact that most first time mamas will go over the 40 week 'due date'. I always reassure mamas their baby will trigger the birthing hormones that begin a natural labour, and their baby very much knows when they wish to be born. If there are no complications in pregnancy, Natural Labour Induction is offered when you reach full term and at least 41 weeks pregnant.
Reflexology during labour
I offer relaxing reflexology treatments to increase birthing hormones oxytocin and endorphins to encourage a natural labour, and the focus here is on keeping you as calm and relaxed as possible, reducing any discomforts. Reflexology provides a feeling of balance and relaxation supporting your own body to set into labour naturally.
Studies have found that those receiving regular Reflexology treatments during pregnancy tend to deliver closer to term, have shorter labours and are less likely to require medical intervention. My experience in practise as a maternity reflexologist certainly reflects this.
